The garden universe vibrates complete

Artist in Residence Jordan Martins in Collaboration with COD Students

November 5 - November 19, 2025 Reception on November 11 @ 2pm-4pm

is an exhibition by Jordan Martins based on research in archives of College of Dupage and explorations of the campus landscape, community and history. Through a variety of media--photography, collage, printmaking, drawing, and video--Martins's work recontextualizes and extends images and themes from the archives, seeking serendipitous connections and subtle patterns that invite viewers to glimpse the ongoing transformation churning through the landscape within which the college is situated.

Martins's research and conversations within the campus gathered around various sites on campus that have shifted in their use and meaning as the various voices and stakeholders within community have shifted and sculpted their relationship to it: the original farmhouse burned down to make way for new buildings as the college was built; memorial trees on that same site planted by students and eventually removed as subsequent changes unfolded; the ongoing cultivation of prairie and wetland ecoystems, in a continual dance with concrete and asphalt, non-native and invasive species, and new expansions of the college's programs and footprint. The works in the show ponder the way meaning is imbued in landscape, inviting viewers into a kaleidoscopic meditation on what a constitutes a community rooted in a place.
